“Much-needed oversight and check on this rouge administration” - IFPTE Responds to Midterm Election Results

“Last night’s election results are a clear and outright rejection by working families from across the political spectrum of the destructive polices of the Trump Administration.”

WASHINGTON, DC – IFPTE President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson released the following joint statement in response to last night’s United States midterm Congressional election results.

“Make no mistake, last night’s election results are a clear and outright rejection by working families from across the political spectrum of the destructive polices of the Trump Administration.  These results are a first step toward restoring what has been missing over the last two years – much needed oversight and a check on this rouge administration.  The current rubber-stamp Congress, led by Speaker Johnson in the House and Leader Thune in the Senate, will be a thing of the past, which is of extreme importance to IFPTE’s broad membership.

“Looking toward January, it is IFPTE’s intention to work with the new Congressional leadership in both the Senate and House, and lawmakers from both parties, who will stand with working families, particularly IFPTE members, and start to restore our members collective bargaining rights that were illegally stripped of us by President Trump’s illegal executive orders, as well as restore funding for important projects and programs that impact IFPTE members’ jobs across every sector.  Furthermore, we expect and look forward to restoring as much funding as possible for Medicaid and SNAP, both of which saw well over $1 trillion in cuts approved by the current Congress and President to fund a huge tax cut for the ultra-wealthy.  Restoring at least some of this funding will not only help those whose very lives depend on it, but it will help to preserve and grow jobs in the public sector across the nation, including IFPTE-represented jobs.  IFPTE will also work to urge lawmakers to use their power of the purse to defund and repeal the punitive and destructive Trump tariffs on Canada.

“As a non-partisan Union, we are pleased that most of our endorsed candidates, from both sides of the aisle, were successful.  We congratulate them and look forward to working with them on the issues impacting IFPTE’s broad membership.”

IFPTE is a labor union representing upwards of 90,000 workers in the United States and Canada.
