NPEU Sign On: Stop Political Harassment of Nonprofit Advocacy Organizations

On Thursday evening, Senator Josh Hawley and leaders of the House Homeland Security Committee launched an alarming and politically motivated campaign targeting over 200 non-government organizations (NGOs). In a press release and letter sent to a still-unknown number of advocacy groups, they announced a sweeping investigation into these organizations' activities related to immigration, protest, and humanitarian support—without any evidence of wrongdoing.

This is a coordinated effort to intimidate and silence legitimate, lawful advocacy and public protest—especially around the treatment of migrants and U.S. immigration policy. This type of attack undermines the essential democratic role that nonprofit organizations play in holding the government accountable, defending civil rights, and advocating for marginalized communities.

We are asking NPEU/IFPTE Local 70 members and all people concerned with democracy, dissent, and justice to stand united against these attacks. Demand they reject these baseless investigations and publicly oppose the misuse of congressional power to threaten community-based organizations and the people they serve.

Saturday, June 14th, there is another opportunity to fight back against the corruption and fascism that is overtaking our government: No Kings Day. Donald Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.

Events are planned all across the country. Find one near you.

 In solidarity always,

Sarah Rawlins, Secretary-Treasurer
Amina Kranson, Vice President of Representation
John Aspray, Vice President of Organizing
Hannah Stephens, Vice President of Organizing
Valeria Mejia-Guevara, Vice President of Communications
