Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson was a featured panelist this week at a summit hosted by Apprenticeships for America (AFA). The event, which was held in Washington, DC, featured a panel organized by the AFL-CIO's Working for America Institute entitled, “Stronger Together: How unions and employers' power successful apprenticeships!”.
Henson, along with representatives from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) discussed the partnership between IFPTE and TVA to stand up a STEM apprenticeship program to serve the employment needs of TVA.
Henson commented that, “this summit was a great opportunity for IFPTE and TVA to provide participants with a behind-the-scenes perspective of the working partnership required to stand up our apprenticeship program, how it benefits the employer, workers and the Union, and its potential to expand to employers elsewhere in the nation.”
The AFA summit has grown to be the nation’s largest apprenticeship summit. IFPTE Assistant to the Executive Officers, Brian Kildee, who is working closely with Henson on the STEM apprenticeship program also attended the summit. Learn more about AFA here.
