“Standing Together Makes Us Stronger!” - IFPTE Joins Kansas AFL-CIO Leaders and Members in Topeka for Solidarity Day
President Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Henson, along with SPEEA Area Vice President Matthew Joyce and former longtime SPEEA Area Vice President Donna Lehane, joined hundreds of Union members for a rally this week in Topeka in support of working families and against both statewide and national attacks on working families.
The rally took place at the state capitol and preceded hundreds of visits by Union members with state lawmakers. Both President Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Henson addressed rally goers about the attacks on collective bargaining rights being experienced by IFPTE members and IFPTE’s legislative, legal, and grassroots efforts to defeat them. Biggs and Henson also joined Kansas AFL-CIO President Brian Alexander, Executive Vice President John Nave, and Executive Secretary-Treasurer Jake Lowen for a meeting with Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.
IFPTE and SPEEA/Local 2001, which represents thousands of workers in Kansas, will continue to advocate with State lawmakers on the issues of importance to IFPTE in particular, and Kansas working families overall.
