SUP Local 160 Joins Ontario Minister of Energy’s Press Conference

The Ontario government announced that it has approved OPG's plan to refurbish Pickering B Units 5, 6, 7, and 8 - four CANDU nuclear reactors at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. This is a major milestone for the nuclear sector in Pickering, and an important step in advancing our climate goals through investments in clean, reliable energy. Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) President Rebecca Caron spoke at the government's press conference.   

"It is Ontario’s existing CANDU fleet—maintained, operated, and supported by unionized workers—that has made Canada a global leader in nuclear power. And it's our made-in-Canada, unionized nuclear supply chain that continues to drive Ontario’s economy, to strengthen our energy security, and keep the lights on for millions of families.
