Senate HELP Committee Considers The PRO Act – IFPTE Urges a “Yes” Vote

On Wednesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee considered amending and advancing the the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act .  IFPTE urged the Committee members to approve the legislation without any amendments that would weaken or delay the the bill’s ability to restore legal protections for workers right to organize and join union, bargain collectively, and ensure meaningful and effective enforcement of labor law violations.

As Union Organizing Continues to Surge, IFPTE Requests Members of Congress Cosponsor and Pass the PRO Act to Strengthen Workers Rights, Labor Law

Although the Americans’ approval of labor unions is at the highest point since 1965 and union organizing is surging across the country, our broken labor laws desperately need to be updated to support workers’ democratic right to form and join unions and bargain collectively. FWA Tells Senators That FLRA's Anti-Union Decision Against NAIJ Also Attacks Due Process in Immigration Court -- Urges Confirmation of FLRA Nominees ASAP

EPI Report on Massive Wage Theft from H-1B Workers and Preferential Hiring Highlights the Urgent Need for Oversight, Enforcement, and Reform of H-1B Visa Program

The EPI report, “New Evidence of Widespread Wage Theft in the H-1B Visa Program,” analyses an internal document from India-based IT staffing firm HCL Technologies and reveals an offshore-outsourcing model that abuses the H-1B program to hire foreign guestworkers at wages below what U.S. workers are paid. The HCL document shows H-1B workers at the firm were underpaid at least $95 million in just one year.
