WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), representing 90,000 members throughout North America, is proud to endorse Elaine Luria for the United States House of Representatives.   IFPTE’s executive officers and key staff provided the following comments.

“As a Member of Congress from 2019 through 2023, Congresswoman Luria distinguished herself at the top of the list of IFPTE’s strongest supporters. She seeks election to represent the constituents of Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, which is home to hundreds of IFPTE Local 1 members who want a lawmaker who will stand for union rights, good jobs and thriving communities, and a government that works for working people. As evidenced by her 99% AFL-CIO legislative approval rating, she is as pro-union and pro-working families as any lawmaker, and she has earned our strong endorsement.”

Elaine Luria served in Congress from 2019 to 2023. In the 117th Congress, the Congresswoman was the Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee and served on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Homeland Security Committee - all of which are of critical importance to IFPTE’s membership. She’s voted for and cosponsored the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, as well as cosponsored the Public Sector Freedom to Negotiate Act, and was instrumental in the passage of the Honoring Our PACT Act, which expanded benefits for veterans with disabilities and illnesses from toxic substance exposure. 

Before coming to Congress, she served our nation for two decades in the U.S. Navy, retiring at the rank of Commander. Her military service included serving on six ships as a nuclear-trained Surface Warfare Officer, deployments in the Middle East and Western Pacific, and commanding a combat-ready unit of 400 sailors. She was also one of the first women in the Navy’s nuclear power program and among the first women to serve the entirety of her career in combatant ships. She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received a master’s in engineering management from Old Dominion University.
