Canadian Labour Congress Honours Emancipation Day

The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), of which IFPTE is affiliated, honoured Emancipation Day on August 1st, marking the day in 1834 when Canada and other British Colonies abolished slavery.  In addition to remembering and honouring those who fought and lost their lives for freedom and liberation, the CLC also used the occasion to urge union members and working families to join the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) Canada calling on the Government of Canada to issue a formal apology for Canada's role in the trafficking and enslavement of Africans.
