IFPTE Urges the “Prioritization of Worker Safety” for Federal Civilian Employees Working in the Middle East

“Federal employees serving America in a war zone is just the latest example of their dedication to the nation”

WASHINGTON, DC – As the war in Iran continues, along with attacks on U.S. military installations across the Middle East where both military and civilian personnel work and live, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), released the following statement regarding civilian federal workers who are risking their lives in support of the nation:

“First and foremost, IFPTE calls on the Department of Defense (DOD) and other pertinent federal government agencies to use every resource necessary to prioritize the safety and security of federal employees throughout the Middle East, including at military installations.  Just as federal workers perform their duties at military bases here in the United States, these civilian employees overseas execute their jobs professionally and without hesitation to support our military personnel, even to the point of putting their own lives in danger like we see occurring right now with the regional instability happening as a result of the current war in Iran.

“Sadly, these very same workers who continue to perform their duties, despite all the instability, are at the same time contending with a Trump Administration that has jeopardized their very careers, their workplace due process rights, and their Unions.  These workers have been told by the Trump Administration that they are “villians”, and that they should be “traumatically affected” at the very thought of going to work.  Many of these skilled workers have been inexplicably pushed out the door by DOGE and through the Administration’s unlawful budget cuts, even to the detriment of our nation’s national security.

“Federal employees serving America in a war zone exemplify the federal workforce’s dedication to the nation, and we demand that the United States government do everything possible to prioritize their safety and security.  We further urge lawmakers from across the political spectrum to recognize their work and sacrifice for the nation, and the Trump Administration to do the same by reversing course on their draconian attacks on their careers and their rights.”
