IFPTE Honors APWU President, Mark Dimondstein, on His Retirement
President Biggs, Mark Dimondstein, and Secretary-Treasurer Henson
Longtime friend to IFPTE, Mark Dimondstein, recently retired from the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) after serving 12 years as President and 42 years of membership.
President Dimondstein’s career in the United States Postal Service (USPS) started in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1983, and three years later in 1986 he was elected to the first of six terms as the president of the Greater Greensboro Area APWU Local.
Among Dimondstein’s many fights during his tenure as APWU president and AFL-CIO Vice President was his steadfast support for protecting collective bargaining rights for federal workers, and his support of single payer healthcare, two issues that he worked on closely with IFPTE.
IFPTE president, Matt Biggs, called Dimondstein, “the conscious of the American labor movement, and someone that IFPTE is proud to have worked with,” while Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, said that Dimondstein, “never hesitated to stand in Solidarity with IFPTE members when called upon.”
In 2013, Dimondstein was elected APWU’s sixth president by the more than 200,000 members of the union, a position he would hold for four terms until his retirement in November, 2025.
