IFPTE Urges “Yes” Vote on Faster Labor Contracts Act, Celebrates Bipartisan House Passage of Labor Law Bill

This week, IFPTE sent a letter to all Members of the House of Representatives urging them to vote in support of the pro-union bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act (H.R. 5408), championed by Democratic Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ) and Republican Congressman Pete Stauber (MN).

The legislation, which was brought to the a House floor vote through a discharge petition process in which a majority of House members supported the bill, against opposition from House Speaker would guarantee workers who organize unions to achieve a first contract through binding arbitration. As IFPTE wrote in their letter of support, the legislation, “will help repair a broken process for negotiating first contracts after workers have successfully voted to form a Union in the private sector,” with the AFL-CIO noting in their letter of support that passage of this legislation, “is an important first step toward the broader and needed labor law reforms contained in the full PRO Act.”

The legislation ultimately passed the House with all House Democrats being joined by 20 House Republicans in voting yes.
