Its Better in a Union Bus Tour - Workers Blast Trump Budget Bill Cuts in Tennessee at Latest Stop

The “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour stopped in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday for a worker roundtable and press conference on how President Trump’s cuts to vital job-building programs and services are harming working Tennesseans.

At the event, which took place at the Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) Local 572 union hall, speakers testified about how Trump’s budget will harm working people in middle Tennessee. Labor leaders broke down how the budget slashes funding for education, clean energy jobs, and essential federal agencies that keep workers safe and ensure they’re treated fairly. Trump’s budget will destroy 15,000 energy jobs across the state and raise health care costs by up to $2,000 a year for a family of four in Tennessee.

The speakers included Tennessee AFL-CIO President Billy Dycus; Central Labor Council of Nashville and Middle Tennessee President Vonda McDaniel; UAW Region 8 Director Tim Smith; Nashville Middle Tennessee Building and Construction Trades President Jacen Davidson; and Tennessee AFL-CIO Communications Director Allie Phillips.

“This bill offers no real wage protections, no labor rights, no safety standards, and no investments in the unions that actually raise standards for working people,” said Phillips. “There’s nothing beautiful about this bill. It is a brutal betrayal to the working class.”
