Manitoba Requires Employers to Provide No Cost Menstrual Products to Workers
Earlier this week, Manitoba became the first Canadian province to require employers to make menstrual products available to workers at no cost while on the job. The amendments to the Workplace Safety and Health Regulations apply to all provincially regulated employers - covering about 90% of Manitoba’s workforce, including members of WAPSO/IFPTE Local 162 - and will come into effect in early August 2026. Workers in federally regulated workplaces have received the same benefit since late 2023 under the Canada Labour Code.
“These changes are about dignity and fairness at work,” said Minister of Labour and Immigration Malaya Marcelino in Monday’s announcement. Manitoba Federation of Labour Executive Director Anna Rothney added, “This is a really important step for gender equity in the workplace and for health and safety on the job.”
