Pass the Protecting America’s Workforce Act (PAWA) Now! IFPTE Joins Rally on Capitol Hill
IFPTE members and staff attended the “Rally for America’s Workforce: PAWA to the People” on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. The rally, which was organized by the Federal Unionist Network (FUN) and sponsored by IFPTE, along with AFGE, NFFE, NTEU and many other Unions representing federal workers, was laser focused on demanding that the Senate immediately pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act (PAWA), either as a free-standing bill as the House had done in December, or as a part of the appropriations process.
Among the hundreds of rally goers in attendance were upwards of 50 IFPTE-represented members and staff, including members from the Goddard Engineers, Scientists, and Technicians Association (GESTA/IFPTE Local 29). Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson commented that, “IFPTE was honored to sponsor, support, and participate in this all-important rally, as lawmakers from all political stripes must step up to provide protections for federal workers from continuing to be used as political pawns.” President Biggs also weighed in, saying, “IFPTE is proud to join the larger labor movement in demanding that the Senate follow the House's lead by passing the bipartisan Protect America's Workforce Act to restore the collective bargaining rights that were illegally stripped from well over 1 million federal workers by the Trump Administration.”
