Society/Local 160 President Meets with Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce
The Society of United Professionals/Local 160 President Rebecca Caron met with Ontario Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce last week to discuss the province's plans for expanding nuclear energy and the workforce needed to support it.
Following the meeting, Minister Lecce thanked Caron for her "good advice and partnership" as Ontario develops a workforce readiness strategy aimed at filling 150,000 net-new jobs across the province. He emphasized that building a highly skilled workforce will be critical as Ontario moves forward with the G7's first small modular reactor (SMR) project and the largest nuclear expansion in a generation.
The discussion highlighted the important role that skilled nuclear professionals will play in ensuring the success of Ontario's growing clean energy sector. The meeting underscores a shared commitment to strengthening Ontario's nuclear workforce while creating high-quality jobs, supporting economic growth, and advancing the province's long-term clean energy strategy.
