"Solidarity, Strength, Success" - IFPTE Attends 72nd Metal Trades Department Convention

President Biggs delivering legislative committee report at MTD Convention

IFPTE Local 121 Treasurer, Ben Toyama, and Steward, Kamalu Alameida, joined legislative/political director, Faraz Khan, and international president, Matt Biggs, as delegates to the Metal Trades Department’s (MTD) 72nd Convention.

The convention, which was held in Las Vegas and was attended by nearly 300 delegates from MTD affiliates across Canada and the United States, focused on the current fights facing labor, particularly those of federal employees who have experienced the most aggressive union-busting campaign from any U.S. president in the nation’s history.  IFPTE submitted three resolutions thanking the MTD for their continued legal and legislative programs to restore federal employee collective bargaining rights, as well as one thanking the bipartisan efforts of Congressmen Donald Norcross (NJ) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), to lead the fight on Capitol Hill.  All three resolutions were passed unanimously.

Finally, convention delegates unanimously elected MTD President, Dale Troll, to continue leading the department.  Biggs commented that, “IFPTE is pleased to see that our great Union Brother and supporter, President Troll, will continue his great stewardship of the MTD, including their ongoing fights, alongside IFPTE, against the Trump administration’s union-busting.”
