Canada's Unions Continue Fight to Protect Right to Strike
Canada's unions are continuing their efforts to protect workers' right to strike, with rallies held in 21 communities across the country last week, followed by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) bringing proposed amendments to Bill C-39 before a parliamentary committee earlier this week. CLC President Bea Bruske warned that the legislation's expanded powers to end legal strikes could undermine collective bargaining and labour stability.
The CLC's proposed changes would restrict government intervention, establish an independent panel to assess genuine national economic emergencies, and require parliamentary approval before a legal strike could be ended.
