“When We Fight, We Win” - From Honolulu to Toronto, IFPTE Locals, Members Participate in Labour Day Festivities
IFPTE members and Locals across North America participated in Labor Day events in their local communities to celebrate and honor working families.
Among the many Locals that represented IFPTE strongly at Labour Day gatherings and marches were Local 121 at the Hawaii Labor Unity Picnic in Waikiki; the Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) at Toronto’s annual Labour Day parade, and Locals 1921 and 29 at Greenbelt, Maryland’s annual Labor Day parade.
Local 121 President/Western Federal Area Vice President, Jamie Uyeunten, commented that “at a time when federal workers across America, including tens of thousands IFPTE members, are facing unprecedented challenges to our collective bargaining rights and our very jobs, it was both important and refreshing for all of the Unions to come together in Solidarity this Labor Day to reinforce our strength and resolve to continue fighting for our members.”
SUP/Local 160 President/Canadian Area Vice President, Rebecca Caron, also commented: “The Society was proud to have a strong contingent of members march in Toronto’s annual Labour Day parade where we joined the larger Labour movement in not only celebrating our wins, but also calling on the Ford Government to reverse course in attacking our public services and the workers that provide them.”
Locals 20, 21, SPEEA/2001, IFPTE international staff and officers, and many other IFPTE Locals and members also attended Labor Day festivities.
