Workers Must Come First: Unions Warn Ottawa Ahead of CUSMA Review 

Canada’s unions are sending a clear and urgent message to the federal government ahead of the 2026 review of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA): workers must come first.

Meeting this week with Minister Dominic LeBlanc, labour leaders, including President Bea Bruske of the Canadian Labour Congress, warned against repeating past trade mistakes that traded away domestic production, good union jobs, and industrial capacity in pursuit of deals at any cost.

With renewed U.S. tariff threats and growing trade instability, unions are calling on Ottawa to defend Canadian jobs, strengthen domestic industry, and ensure that any renewed agreement protects workers’ rights, fair wages, and community economic stability.
