Historic International Court Ruling Affirms Workers’ Right to Strike

The international labour movement is celebrating a landmark International Court of Justice ruling affirming that the right to strike is a fundamental workers’ right tied to collective bargaining and freedom of association. Labour organizations around the world - including the AFL-CIO and Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), IFPTE is an affiliate of both - welcomed last week’s decision as a major victory for workers globally.

The CLC noted that the ruling comes at a critical time, as unions continue pushing back against efforts to weaken collective bargaining rights and restrict strikes through changes to labour legislation.  Read more from the CLC here and from the AFL-CIO here.
