IFPTE, SUP Attend 2025 North American Young Generation Nuclear Conference
This week IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson, Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) President Rebecca Caron, SUP/IFPTE Local 160 External Relations Director, Mike Belmore, and IFPTE Assistant to Executive Officers, Brian Kildee, joined hundreds of young professionals and industry leaders from Canada and the United States at the North American Young Generation Nuclear (NAYGN) 2025 Continental Conference in Denver.
Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson commented that, “this week’s NAYGN conference provided IFPTE and the Society the opportunity to continue to promote the message that strong public investments in carbon-free nuclear energy technologies will not only lead to energy independence, but also good-paying, union-represented jobs throughout North America.”
SUP/IFPTE Local 160 President Rebecca Caron also commented, saying, “The Society is proud to have members of our Union who are members of NAYGN, and who attended this week’s annual conference in Denver. I am proud to be able to join them in informing attendees of CANDU nuclear technologies and how they will help North America and other regions across the globe provide an abundance of clean, reliable, affordable, and safe energy that meets the ever-growing demands of our society.”
In an industry where many young people are increasingly interested in the benefits of becoming union members, attending conferences like this allows the union to have a lot of great one-on-one conversations with young professionals, many of whom don’t even realize they have the option of joining a union.
Among the many workshops presented at the conference were “Navigating the Nuclear Landscape: Regional Differences and Common Goals,” “Shaping the Future Together: Global Trends and Technological Innovations.” Local 160 NWMO LVP Mike Borrelli was a presenter for a panel on consent-based siting for nuclear waste repositories.
