TEAM AGM Highlights Union’s Resilience in Face of Challenges

Members of TEAM/IFPTE Local 161 gathered in Winnipeg this past week for their Annual General Meeting. The lunch-hour meeting featured a full agenda that included a report from the President, financial updates, information about the upcoming referendum, proposed changes to the Bylaws and Constitution, and an overview of workplace issues and member advocacy efforts.

In his report, President Dave Eyjolfson highlighted significant events from the past year, including another round of job cuts at Bell Canada, resulting in the departure of over 70 members; the transition in TEAM’s leadership, with the interim appointment of Carrie Sanderson as Executive Director earlier this year; and the recent completion of a successful round of collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

President Eyjolfson also shared positive news about the Local’s strong financial position, as well as outlining upcoming opportunities for members to participate in union activities and encouraging greater involvement in the months ahead.

Erin Spencer, IFPTE Representative and Organizer, delivered greetings on behalf of IFPTE President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson. She emphasized the important role of union solidarity in the face of adversity and in affecting positive change for members.

The meeting served as a platform to unite members, highlight achievements, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead, particularly as TEAM looks forward to the start of a new Board term in the upcoming year.
