Bell Canada Continues to Target TEAM Jobs for Layoff
Earlier this week, Bell initiated another round of workforce reductions impacting TEAM Local 161 members. These cuts will result in the loss of at least 46 jobs from the TEAM bargaining unit and have significant implications for both the employees directly affected and those who remain.
As with previous reductions, remaining employees will be expected to absorb additional responsibilities and heavier workloads. This raises concerns related to workload, employee morale and stress levels, service delivery, and overall operational capacity.
Excluding the current cuts, Bell has eliminated nearly 600 high-skilled, well-paying jobs from TEAM and Manitoba’s economy since its takeover of MTS in 2017—a stark contrast to the company’s commitment at the time of the purchase to establish Manitoba as its Western Canadian headquarters.
TEAM and the IFPTE remain committed to advocating on behalf of our members, advancing policies that protect jobs and sustain a strong telecommunications workforce in Manitoba, and pressing elected officials to take action to retain telecom jobs and safeguard the industry’s future in the province.
